USC women’s basketball suffered a devastating blow as star freshman JuJu Watkins has torn her ACL, sources confirmed. The injury will sideline the standout guard for the remainder of the season, a crushing setback for both Watkins and the Trojans, who had high hopes for a deep NCAA Tournament run.

Watkins, a 6-foot-2 guard, quickly emerged as one of the most dominant players in the country, averaging impressive numbers in her debut season. Known for her scoring ability, defensive prowess, and leadership on the court, she was a key factor in USC’s success and had positioned herself as a future WNBA star.

The injury reportedly occurred As Watkins drove to the basket on a fast break between two defenders, she was fouled and her right knee buckled as she planted her leg, causing her to collapse to the floor. Watkins immediately grabbed her knee and stayed down for over a minute.

though details on the incident remain scarce. ACL tears typically require surgery and an extensive rehabilitation process, which could keep Watkins out of action for nearly a year.

This is a significant loss for USC, which built much of its offensive game plan around Watkins. The Trojans will now have to adjust without their top scorer and leader as they push forward in the NCAA Tournament and beyond. Despite the setback, Watkins is expected to make a full recovery and continue her rise as one of the most promising young talents in women’s basketball. For now, USC will have to rally together in her absence, but there’s no doubt that JuJu Watkins will come back stronger than ever.
